The Azerbaijani government takes special care and attention to the elderly. On June 22, 2001, National Leader Heydar Aliyev signed the Law "On the provision of social care for older people." Under the law, the elderly in the country are considered citizens of the Azerbaijan Republic, as well as foreign citizens and stateless persons living in the country, who have attained the age of 70.
According to Babayev, 365,467 people older than 70 years receive the retirement pension. [rc]
