Its organising chairman Soon Boon Keng said it was important for them to maintain relationships with those of other generations, including their children and grandchildren. The association, founded 18 ye-ars ago, has over 700 members here. It operates from a clubhouse in Jalan Petrie. Tanjung Puteri state assemblyman Ali Bin Mohamed, who officiated the event, praised the association for being “the most active senior citizens’ association in the state.” He urged its members to continue to be active in participating in the association’s activities. The family day started with a jogathon, followed by food and drinks. They also organised fun games, such as egg races, balloon blowing, drawing and colouring and a fancy dress contest for the members and their families. “None of my siblings live here anymore. I now live in Singapore, so it’s great that my kids get a chance to spend time with their grandfather at an event like this,” said Susan Teng. Retired factory supervisor and SCA-JB member Tay Boon Tong said he enjoyed being at the event. “It was a good way for old folks to get out and avoid becoming lonely”. The association provided a way for them to stay active, he added. By Alex Yap © 1995-2005 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd
