INDIA: Innovations in Design for Elder Care - Theme of Sep Event
MUMBAI, July 10, 2006:
Dignity Foundation Senior Citizens Life Enrichment Services, Mumbai, is to hold a national symposium and exhibition on "Innovations in Design for Elder Care", at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai, September 12 & 13, 2006, according to Dr.Sheilu Srinivasan, Founder- President of Dignity Foundation.
The event is being organised under the aegis of the Science & Society Division of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and in partnership with Industrial Design Centre, IIT, Mumbai.
The symposium on September 12 will feature presentations and discussions on Government of India’s Vision for Elder Care (A.K. Saha, Advisor, Government of India), Innovations in Design in Elder Care (Dr. Sheilu Srinivasan), Need for Design Innovation in Architectural Layouts and Specifications in Old Age homes in India (Charles Correa), Building Homes for the Poor Old: Specificities of Community Design and Multiple Modes of Finance, Customising Interiors for Retirement Communities, Building for Alzhiemer's Disease Affected Older Persons (Hammond Care Group, Sydney), Mobility of Senior Citizens (Cosmo Kare), Communication Needs of the Elderly, Security and Safety, Convenience and Comfort.
On September 13, the Symposium is slated to feature a talk on Concept of Universal Design (Dr.Darlie O. Koshy, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad), The Mature Market: Hidden Potential (Frederic Serriere, France), Learning Computers Easily (Microsoft, Delhi), Independent Living Centre — How to Make Elderly Live Alone with Maximum Support through Aids and Architectural design (Presentation by a Chinese company), How Retirees Can Capitalize On Their House Proper (S. Sivaramakrishnan, Director, IL&FS), Designing Furniture for the Old, Psychological Interventions in Coping with Ageing (Dr Ashish Deshpande, Psychiatrist, Mumbai), Nightingale Services in Bangalore (Prem Kumar Raja), Midday Meals on Wheels to Senior Citizen Homes, and Loneliness Mitigation Services (Nandita Banerjee).
Dignity Foundation is also looking at introducing and implementing valuable ideas and products at its Dignity Lifestyle Township where senior citizens are residing.
Launched in 1995, Dignity Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation in elder care. Its mission is to provide best-in-class social support systems (Elder Care, Housing, Companionship, etc.) that deliver care facilities for families where none exist. The Foundation has won several awards in recognition of its various useful activities.
Dignity is to set up an R&D centre to identify and develop products that employ technology.
