INDIA: Rail Concession for all Senior Citizens over 60

NEW DELHI, April 1, 2003 (Press Information Bureau):

Now all senior citizens, men as well as women, of the age of 60 years and above, will be entitled to 30 per cent conession in Mail and Express fares of all classes and all-inclusive composite fares of Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi group of trains, says an announcement by India's Ministry of Railways.

As for women, eligibility of age for concession in rail fares was reduced from 65 years and above to 60 years and above earlier last year with effect from April 1, 2002.

In cases of tickets already issued for travel on and after April 1, 2003, refund of difference of fares will not be admissible.

The orders of the Ministry of Railways reducing the age criteria for men from 65 years and above to 60 years and above follows announcement by the Railway Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar in his Railway Budget 2003-2004 speech on February 26, 2003 in the Lok Sabha.
