MALAYSIA: 'Home Help Services' Shows Govt Cares for Seniors

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia  / The Borneo Post / Nation / April 27, 2012

The ‘Home Help Services’ implemented by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry recently proves that the government cares about the welfare of senior citizens.

Deputy Minister Datuk Heng Seai Kei said the service focused on senior citizens who were poor and staying alone, or with family but in need of assistance.

“Volunteer workers will attend a course to provide them knowledge, skill and understanding in various aspects,” she said in response to a question from Senator Norliza Abdul Rahim.

Heng said after completing the course, participants would be made volunteer workers and would visit old folks homes to do the daily routine, like cleaning the place, keeping the inmates company, doing shopping, paying the bills and providing health care for the inmates there.
