Repeated hospital stays may come with a price.

A study in the journal Neurology finds those stays may take a toll on elderly minds.

Researchers studied a group of elderly people over several years.

Most of them stayed in the hospital at least once during that period.

After just one stay, patients performed poorly on cognitive tests.

Each time they were in the hospital, it seemed to speed up a patient's mental decline.
