Despite several steps taken by the Delhi Police to curb crime against senior citizens, the Capital continues to witness violence against them. While the previous year saw as many as 15 cases of crime against senior citizens, ranging from murder to dacoity and robbery, the sensational murder case of Sarojini Bartwal at her Mayur Vihar residence, rocked the city on Tuesday morning.

The murder has taken place just four days after BK Gupta, Delhi Police commissioner, at the annual Press conference assured that safety and security of senior citizens and women will be his top priority this year.
According to the annual report of the Delhi Police, more than 12,788 senior citizens are registered with the senior citizen cell of the Delhi Police.http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/HTEditImages/Images/11-01-12-metro2b.jpg

Around two months after the murder, the police arrested two Nepali nationals, including the domestic help who worked at her house. Shokat Begum, 62, was  killed by her Bangladeshi tenant at her residence in central Delhi’s Hauz Qazi area in March.
