Encouraged by the success of several dedicated taxi services launched recently like Pink Taxis for ladies and families and taxis for people with special needs, Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) is planning to introduce a special service for senior citizens this quarter, a senior official said.

The corporation will allocate a particular number of taxis for people with advanced age, driven by experienced drivers, while offering them special discounts.

Though the exact date of the launch has not been disclosed, the service is expected to be introduced by the end of the first quarter.

“We are working on the modalities of the service structure and the design” said Yousuf Al Ali, Acting CEO of DTC.

He said the fare has not been finalised, but there will be a significant discount. However, the service would be offered exclusively by DTC taxis and other franchises would not be bound by the decision.

Asked whether DTC is introducing these services to compete with the metro, Al Ali said:
“Metro and taxis complement each other.”
