Senior citizens in Dumaguete City yesterday received P1,500 each under the Social Pension for Senior Citizens that allocates P500 per month for senior citizens under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.

The distribution of cash assistance to 27 senior citizens was assisted by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.

In the meantime, validation and accounting of senior citizens in the city is ongoing to determine the next batch of recipients, George Villamor, Office of Senior Citizens Affairs president, said.

Initially, the OSCA has accounted for more than 400 qualified senior citizens to receive the cash grant in the coming pay-out, and the list will be submitted to the DSWD for confirmation.

Recipients should not be receiving pensions from GSIS, SSS, Pag-IBIG and other insurance firms, have no children abroad, and are aged 77 years and above.
