Mayor welcomes cases filed vs him

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he welcomes the filing of criminal and administrative charges against him, confident the case will not succeed.

Businessman Rommel Ynion filed the charges against Mabilog before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas for buying cakes for senior citizens in 32 separate purchases during Christmas and New Year.

Mabilog said the issue will finally be settled by a competent body and he is positive the cases against him will not succeed. More than 80 percent of cases filed against elected public officials in Iloilo are dismissed as political harassments out to rattle and distract public service, he said.


The city mayor said his conscience is clear and what were charged against him were products of wrong facts.

The reimbursements of cake purchases amounted to Peso 106,690 were taken from the Peso 4.09 million expense allocations for conferences, meetings and entertainment.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Audit (COA) report did not consider buying cakes for senior citizens as illegal. The COA report showed the expenses are properly made under the appropriations for Other Maintenance and Operating Expenses, Extraordinary Expenses or Discretionary Expenses.
