Doreen Allen, of Leighton Road, West Ealing, has been nominated by a colleague from the United Anglo-Caribbean Society (UACS) for the 'key worker' award as she is a community cook and regularly puts her chef skills to good use for school events.
Vinnette Campbell of UACS nominated the 50-year-old because of her positive attitude helping others and for providing support for her as carer of her father who suffers dementia.
Miss Campbell, 45, said: "Doreen works in the local community and she is very good at what she does. People respond to her really well and she's always jolly and happy and pleased to see everyone. Whenever I have troubling times caring for my dad, I know I can always go to Doreen for a chat. She's definitely a worthy nominee and I hope she will be pleased to be recognised."
Mrs Allen, 50, said she was surprised and excited to hear she had been nominated for The Gazette and Thames Valley University awards scheme.
She said: "I have been cooking for more than 20 years and I love it. I enjoy chatting with the elderly people who have a really good time here. My friendship with Vinnette has developed over time and and I'm very surprised that she nominated me." [rc]
