USA: Senior citizens rock out to music of Nirvana, Hendrix and Coldplay

. NEWTOWN, Pennsylvania / Bucks Local News / Entertainment / November 9, 2009 Young@Heart, a renowned group of seniors ages 73 to 88, will perform in the area December 6. Hatboro-Horsham High School will rock ‘n’ roll with the music of Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Coldplay and others, but don’t think it’s just another school dance, concert by an upstart local band or fundraiser. These musicians more resemble the grandparents of the school kids themselves and they’re bringing their rockin’ show to Horsham in a concert that has been wildly successful with fans of all ages worldwide. The Young@Heart Chorus, is made up of about two dozen seniors ages 73 to 88. Founded in 1982 by residents of a housing project for the elderly in Northampton, Massachusetts, Young@Heart has performed throughout the United States as well as in Europe and Australia. The group, which requires members be at least 73 years old, bridges the generation gap with its music. “Finding the ZEN in Senior Citizen” is how it touts itself. Publications like Time magazine (June 2005) have noticed: “These gyrating geriatrics travel around the world beating out rock classics and garnering rave reviews.” [rc] © 2009 BucksLocalNews.com
