Senior citizens' driving licenses will have a longer period of validation in Peru
By Isabel Guerra
Starting today, the citizens over 65 do not have to renew their driver's licenses every two years as they used to, according to Peruvian laws.
Peru's Transports and Commnications Ministry has published a change in the regulations, which now gives people the benefit of renewing their driving license every 8 years until they turn 70.
The new rules also state that citizens between 70 to 75 years ols will renew their driving licenses every 5 years, while those ones between 75 and 80 years old will have to do it every 3 years.
Only the citizens over 80 years old will have to renew their licenses every two years.
Peru's Transports Minister, Enrique Cornejo, remarked that most people in their 70's are still in good health conditions, and can perform tasks such as driving “without any problems.” [rc]
