The 74-year-old Sosa’s health situation worsened in the past day or so after her “temperature rose” last night and her doctors decided to put her on a respirator, Sosa’s relatives told the state-run Telam news agency.
The performer, who has been hospitalized several times in recent years, suffers from “progressive renal dysfunction” and has a guarded prognosis, according to sources at the clinic where she is receiving treatment.
The singer’s latest hospital stay comes amid the sales success of “Cantora” and “Cantora 2,” her latest album, in which Sosa combines her talent with that of artists of the caliber of Spain’s Joan Manuel Serrat, Colombian Shakira, Brazil’s Caetano Veloso and Uruguay’s Jorge Drexler, among others.
Sosa, who was born in the northwestern province of Tucuman, is the most well-known among Argentine folk singers and her almost six-decade-long career includes numerous awards and musical successes. EFE [rc]
