It’s been almost 30 years since the Leavenworth Senior Citizen Kitchen Band first picked up instruments and started playing together. But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and the Kitchen Band took its final bow in March during a performance at Golden Living Center in Lansing.
Some of the members got together on August 7 to sing the group’s signature curtain call, “Happy Trails” by Dale Evans and Roy Rogers and reminisce about the history of the group.
Between the time the Kitchen Band formed and that last performance in March, Don Bachtel, the group’s former master of ceremonies and director, said the Leavenworth Senior Citizen Kitchen band played probably more than 2,000 shows around the area.[rc]
