A two-day standoff between authorities in Italy and two elderly twins ended peacefully Saturday when police entered the house in which the pair had barricaded themselves. The 65-year-old brothers had threatened to use petrol bombs to prevent one of them from being returned to a psychiatric clinic.
But at around noon on Saturday, Luciano Guglielmo, left the house in the north-eastern town of Monselice, and allowed paramedics to escort him to a nearby hospital, news reports said.
About an hour later, his brother, Flavio, surrendered to police.
Officials cited by the ANSA news agency, said that a number of Molotov cocktail-type petrol bombs were found in the house.
According to Italian news reports, the brothers are in poor health and have both been treated for depression in the past. [rc]
