INDIA: Now Pune Gets A Century Club
.
PUNE, Maharashtra / Sakaal Times / July 29, 2009
Get over the loneliness and insecurity at the age of 90 and above, and join the Century Club to enjoy the old age.
The Jan Seva Foundation has formed the Club for those who are in their late nineties and still active in social life. The club will be formally inaugurated in October, on the International Day for Elderly Persons.
The Club is the brainchild of the chairman of the foundation, Dr Vinod Shaha, who said it is meant for an exchange of knowledge between older and younger generations. Explaining the idea behind the Century Club, Dr Shaha told Sakal Times, “We should really learn from these senior citizens how to be fit physically and mentally. The club members will meet once a month and share their experiences.”
At the Club, there will be entertainment programmes for the members. The Jana Seva Foundation will sponsor the programmes including health check camps, specific treatments and counseling.
The Club members meet at Nivara Old Age Home. “We have requested Dajikaka Gadgil of PNG, one of the most active senior citizens in the city, to be the president of the Century Club. At present, there are 11 members above the age of 90 including four to five women as well as four members who have crossed their century. The club will try to bring cheer into the lives of the aged, and inspire others to live happily,” said Dr Shaha. [rc]
