GHANA: Prez Salutes Senior Citizens For Contribution To Society

ACCRA, Ghana / GraphicGhana.com / July 2, 2009 As the country celebrates 49 years of Republican status today, President John Evans Atta Mills has lauded the role of senior citizens in the nation’s development and urged them to continue to offer their expertise and experiences in the nation’s quest to improve the lot of the people. He said the contribution of the elderly to the society had been matchless since the day Ghana earned total independence from British colonial rule and expressed regret at his inability to be part of the day’s celebration, especially when the day was his first to observe as the President of the Republic. He was, however, confident that the Vice- President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, “will adequately represent me”. To them. I say Ayeeko,” he stressed. “May God continue to bless them in their period of retirement. I hope to be able to share the occasion with them, God willing next year,” he added.
