. VIENNA, Austria / Austrian Times / July 3, 2009 By Lisa Chapman Firemen saved 31 mostly bedridden people from possible drowning at an old people’s home in Lower Austria Thursday evening. Heavy rain had caused a brook in a woods behind the building in Maria Anzbach in St. Pölten district to become a raging torrent. Firemen called to the scene had to carry the 31 people from the ground floor to the first floor to save them from rapidly-rising water. Most of them had to spend the night on mattresses lying on the floor.
