A pair of Grand Rapids great-grandmothers say, if nothing else, their bowling championship proves great things are possible at any age.
"You are never too old to achieve," says bowling champion Judy Conner.
"Just try, try and you'll get there," says her partner Emma Dausman. Emma Dausman is 86. Judy Conner is 69.
Together they won the division 2 state championship at the Woman's Bowling Association tournament in Bay City.
They defeated opponents less than half their age.
Emma credits Judy with keeping them relaxed and loose. "We just chatted and told jokes," says Judy.
"If you get too serious about it you tense up and your ball goes everywhere you don't want it to," adds Emma.
Emma has been bowling for 44 years, Judy for 34. This is the first big bowling title for both.
"It's the best I've ever bowled," says Emma. "I couldn't believe it." Along with championship jackets each woman won around $1,000 in prize money. [rc]
