USA: Connecticut has new rules on sale of financial products to elderly
.
HARTFORD / Connecticut Post / AP / June 7, 2009
People who market and sell financial products to Connecticut's senior citizens will face tighter rules starting July 1.
The General Assembly last week passed legislation barring people from touting themselves with phony certifications or professional designations claiming they have special expertise in products for the elderly.
AARP Connecticut said some seniors have been exploited by financial consultants, life insurance agents and others claiming to specialize in products for the elderly.
Authorities say many of the so-called certifications are bestowed by companies trying to sell financial products to that market, not accredited institutions.
Massachusetts, Nebraska, Missouri and California have similar laws.
