USA: Chicago college launches senior citizen program

. CHICAGO, Illinois / The Telegraph / Associated Press / June 12, 2009 Chicago senior citizens can now enroll in a $50 program at a local college as a way to remain active. According to officials, the Golden Age Club at Wilbur Wright College was created because research has demonstrated seniors should remain active. The Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons says staying active through either physical activity or mental stimulation leads to a longer, healthier life. Enrollment in the Golden Age Club allows seniors to take four continuing education classes and to receive half-off the cost of additional classes. Without the program, these classes cost more than $50 individually. Membership in the club also includes two informal social events with music, lectures and refreshments.
