SINGAPORE: More plans in the pipeline for seniors

. SINGAPORE / The Straits Times / Breaking News / June 10, 2009 By Ang Yiying SENIORS will have more options to tap on when embarking on a second career and staying healthy. The Singapore Action Group of Elders, or Sage - a voluntary welfare organisation for senior citizens which promotes their continued growth and development - is targeting to raise $2.5 million to upgrade its training facilities and fund its new plans. In the pipeline: *The development of a caregiver course in collaboration with a local polytechnic, with an aim to train 250 caregivers a year. Seniors can attend the course to start a second career, or to learn to care for their relatives. *A herbal and wellness garden, covering approximately 250 square metres, with more than 100 species of herbal plants, that its members can maintain. *A wellness corner for Sage members to exercise. *An e-learning programme for seniors in collaboration with an e-learning provider. *A pre-retirement programme that shows seniors how to plan for an active, meaningful retirement.
