The age limit for the beneficiaries of the old-age allowance under the social safety net programme of the government will be reduced to 60 years in future.
Informing this in parliament during the question hour Social Welfare Minister Enamul Huq Mostafa Shahid said yesterday that the number of beneficiaries will also be increased.
Presently the government is considering reducing the age limit to 62 from 65, he added.
The minister informed the house that an inter-ministerial committee headed by the Finance Minister decided to raise the allowance to Tk 300 from Tk 250 per month and the number of beneficiaries to 2.2 million from 2 million.
