.
HYDERABAD, Andhra Pradesh / Express Buzz / May 27, 2009
Retired but not tired! Every Tuesday, a group of not-so young people meet and indulge in animated discussions with a great bonhomie – on any subject under the sun.
As members of Association of Senior Citizens of Hyderabad, these elder people have a great amount of zeal for life, which can put a youngster to shame. The club was started in 1999 to bring together senior citizens in the twin cities and to share a platform, which is mutually beneficial and which evokes interest and provides entertainment to the members.
A plethora of topics ranging from books, nutrition to family problems and politics are discussed by the members. President of Senior Citizens of Hyderabad, Visveshwariyah verbalizes, “The club works towards the welfare of the senior citizens. We try and make each other happy and occupied.” Shirin Punjawani from ABC Laughter Club conducts various hasya yogas on Tuesday to the enthused senior citizens.
“Hasya yogas improves blood circulation and controls asthma, diabetes and tension, apart from keeping one young at heart,” she says. K L Rameshwar Rao, a member chuckles, “Laughter is a medicine, which cures many ailments. Human Beings smile for only eight minutes a day, which is very less. Through this exercise, we hope to retain our grins and live life to the fullest.” President of Association of Senior Citizens of Hyderabad, expresses, “Few weeks back we screened movies on World War II and discussed the causes and effects of the war. The members particularly enjoyed the sessions on artificial intelligence, which we held last week.” says Visveshwariyah.
“Such sessions brings us all closer to each other,” says E Prabhakar Rao, who joined the association two months ago.
