JAPAN: Seven dead after nursing home fire in Gunma Prefecture

MAEBASHI, Japan / Japan Today / Kyodo News / March 20, 2009 The bodies of seven people were recovered from a nursing home for the elderly in Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture, after a fire that broke out there late Thursday night, police said Friday. The seven were among 17 people who were at the Tamayura home at the time of the fire, including one staffer. Among the other people, four suffered burns, three seriously. The remaining six including the staffer were confirmed safe. The fire broke out at around 11 p.m. and burned the nursing home’s three buildings before it was put out about two hours later. © 2009 Kyodo News
