Doris Brown died at Wordsworth House Care Home in Swanage on January 14. She had become accustomed to receiving telegrams from the Queen on an annual basis since becoming a centenarian in 2000, and she put her long life down to her active lifestyle.
Doris featured in the Daily Echo several times as she marked her milestone birthdays.
Her only daughter, Betty Fearn, visited her regularly at the home in Swanage and paid tribute to her mother’s long life and to the people who cared for her in her later years.
Trish Ashby Rudd, manager at Wordsworth House, added: “It was an absolute privilege to care for somebody of such a great age and we will really miss her and the family.”
Doris enjoyed badminton and tennis and, although she lost her hearing aged just five after contracting meningitis, she was able to enjoy an active social life with deaf clubs.

THE woman thought to be the oldest in Dorset has passed away at the age of 108.
