The website's design has been developed to suit the elderly: it tries to be as simple as possible, using high-contrast colours. It has versions with larger letters for shortsighted people and a black-and-white version for the colour-blinded.
The website offers information on events that might be interesting for the elderly, such as culture programmes, education courses and lectures, relevant changes in legislation that concern them. It also has a dating section.
"Anybody who suffers from loneliness or isolation in old age or who would just like to meet people may seek company or post an ad (on the website)," Zivot 90 spokesman Oldrich Bubrle said.
Zivot 90 cooperated with the Foundation of Livia and Vaclav Klaus when working on the website.
The foundation has been organising special courses where elderly people learn to use the Internet, a mobile phone and credit cards. Some 2500 people have attended the course since 2007 and further 1500 are to attend it next year.
