. LONDON, England (The Sun), September 30, 2008: THE number of Britons reaching the age of 100 is at an all-time high, new figures reveal. There were 9,300 men and women who became centenarians last year. That was a 90-fold increase on the total of just 100 in 1911. Factors behind the increase include improvements in medical treatment, hygiene and sanitation, housing and living standards and nutrition, according to the Office for National Statistics.
