QATAR: Community Iftar hosted for the elderly

. DOHA (The Peninsula), September 24, 2008: Qatar-based NGO Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) organised a community Iftar at the Qatari Elderly Institute. The Iftar was part of a series of initiatives by ROTA and its supporting partners during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The special Iftar, organised with the support of Al Jaidah Group — ROTA's associate partner — was attended by nearly 60 elderly residents and employees of the Institute. The Iftar was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh Al Thani, Member of the ROTA Board, Omnia Nour, Director of ROTA, and representatives from Al Jaidah Group. In her comments, Sheikha Aisha said: "The Holy Month of Ramadan reflects sharing, caring and spreading goodwill. The Iftar meals for the elderly highlight the importance of sharing and giving back to the community. I would like to congratulate and thank the volunteers from ROTA and Al Jaidah Group for their support to this initiative." The volunteer driven community campaign expresses ROTA's commitment to the society and underlines the values of the holy month. The event was aimed at giving the volunteers an opportunity to serve and dine with the elderly people and make them feel special. The volunteer team for the Iftar event was divided into two teams - one preparing and packing the meals, while the other one responsible for transporting and serving the meals. © 2001 The Peninsula.
