SOUTH AFRICA: Pensioner shoots two, then himself
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (Cape Argus), August 22, 2008:
A pensioner has gone on a rampage, shooting and seriously injuring two residents at an old age home, before turning the gun on himself.
The incident occurred on Thursday at the Crown Gardens Old Age Home near Southdale, south of Johannesburg, according to Booysens police spokesperson Inspector Lorraine Immerick.
The 68-year-old man, who is originally from Portugal and has been staying at the centre for about six years, shot two female residents.
One was shot in the neck and another in the arm. Without uttering a word, he then went back to his room and shot himself dead.
The two women were taken to hospital. Late last night, their conditions were described as serious but stable.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and suicide.
