NEW ZEALAND: Elderly man charged with library assault
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (Stuff.co.nz), August 29, 2008:
An elderly Chinese man has been charged with indecently assaulting and sexually violating a girl at a Christchurch library.
The 80-year-old was remanded on strict bail conditions when he appeared before Judge Stephen Erber in Christchurch District Court today, the Christchurch Court News website reported.
During his three-week remand he will not be able to go within 100m of Shirley Library and not be allowed any contact with children under the age of 16.
Judge Stephen Erber granted an interim name suppression order which he said would have to supported by medical certificates if it was to be continued when the case came back to court on September 19.
