IRELAND: Former President Mary Robinson receives international award
.
BELFAST, U.K. (Belfast Telegraph), August 31, 2008:
Former Ireland President Mary Robinson and former U.N. high commissioner for human rights has been honoured with an international award in Switzerland..
Mrs Robinson was given the 2008 Prix Des Generations award at a ceremony in St. Gallen's University, for her international work on human rights.
More than 500 delegates attended the event, including Ireland's Ambassador to Switzerland, James Sharkey.
Speaking on acceptance of the award, the former President has said she is just one member of a team of people, who all deserve recognition.
'I couldn't do what I do what I do without their support so I feel slightly uncomfortable that it's Mary Robinson who gets the bright lights and the awards.
'But also, the recognition helps our work and the support helps our work,' she added.
