Health and ayurveda minister of Himachal Pradesh state, Rajeev Bindal, launched a campaign to promote geriatric care through ayurveda in Shimla. He said 85 posts of ayurvedic doctors have been sanctioned in this north India state and shortly 154 vacant posts would be filled up.
It will be the third Indian state to establish an Ayurvedic University, after Gujarat and Rajasthan. The Paprola Ayurvedic College is being upgraded to a 200 bedded hospital and 11 professors had been recently given appointment letters.
The government has sanctioned Rs 10 million for creating infrastructural facilities in the college.
Bindal said that health care facilities are being provided through 1,200 ayurvedic health institutions in the state. The state has employment potential in herbal cultivation for production of herbal medicines.
Ayurveda officers and medical officers from all over the state and nominees of the Government of India are participating in the two day seminar.
Himachal Pradesh has been declared the nodal state for the implementation of the geriatrics health care through ayurveda campaign in the country. He suggested this campaign be named as 'long life programme for senior citizens'.
