'Hearbreaking' ... Leona describes plight of grandmother struggling to feed her grandchildren who lost mother to AIDSJOHANNESBURG, South Africa (The Sun, London), March 11, 2008:
Singer Leona Lewis was unable to hold back the tears during her charity trip to South Africa. She visited a shanty town in Johannesburg and broke down when describing a grandmother who solely cares for her grandchildren after their mother died of AIDS.
The X Factor winner said it was "heartbreaking" seeing the elderly woman cry, telling of her struggle to feed her young grandchildren, while dealing with the death of her own daughter.
Leona admitted the trip changed her life and made her truly appreciate how lucky she is. After witnessing the problems for herself she said: “Some of the horrors I have seen will never leave me.”
