PAKISTAN: Walk held for senior citizens’ rights
LAHORE, Pakistan (Daily Times), March 31, 2008:
The Senior Citizens Foundation of Pakistan (SCFP) on Sunday arranged a walk for “the rights of senior citizens” in front of the Lahore Press Club.
The walk was arranged to urge the government and the community to pay attention to the needs of senior citizens and to ensure their comfort and dignity. Around 200 people, including children and young men, participated in the walk side by side with senior citizens.
The participants were holding banners and placards inscribed with demands regarding the rights of the senior citizens.
Professor Dr Ghulam Sarwar, convenor of the Senior Citizens Foundation of Pakistan, said that the objective of the walk was to fill the generation gap between the youngsters and aged, and to highlight the significance of the senior citizens in the society.
He said that senior citizens could play a vital role in the progress of any community or society. “Their experience and knowledge can be used in an effective manner in solving many problems,” he added.
