JAPAN: Yokohama's Polite Bureau To Enforce Etiquette on Buses

GLASGOW, Scotland (Sunday Herald), March 30, 2008: Authorities in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, have appointed a team of etiquette enforcers, the Smile-Manner Squadron, to deal with bad behaviour.  Violations include failing to offer your seat to elderly people, chatting loudly on mobile phones, applying make-up in public and listening to music on "leaky" headphones, writes Roxanne Sorooshian in SUNDAY HERALD today. The Japanese enforcers will be identifiable by their bright green uniforms. Sadly, this colour scheme might be a little sensitive on some transport routes in Scotland. But might I suggest a subtle fuchsia-lilac ensemble - gentle on the eye yet complementing perfectly the lovely pink-purple livery of FirstBus? The intrepid team will be called the Polite Bureau.
