ZAMBIA: Mattresses And Pillows Worth Millions Gifted To Aged Care Centre

LUSAKA, Zambia (Daily Mail), February 8, 2008: Lusaka’s Matero After Care Centre for the Aged has received a gift of K4.5 million worth of mattresses and pillows from a leading manufacturer. Handing over the gift Mr. Kishore Patel of Foam King said it was part of a continuous programme of giving back to "this home because they were once like us but with time they have grown old.” Catherine Namugala, Minister of Community Development and Social Services, encouraged other business enterprises to emulate the gesture. "Government has limited resources, but it will try to furnish places where these old people live,” Ms Namugala said. Her ministry would also provide support to places of safety in order to help sustain the inmates as well as the caregivers. By Kanyanta Katango © 2005 Zambia Daily Mail
