INDIA: Retired Man Honoured For Blood Donation, Raising Funds For Old Age Homes In Germany

Shivadas Pattanath receives the German Meritorious Cross award from Mayor of Lagen, Dieter Pitthan.



CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu (The Hindu), February 10, 2008:

An Indian settled in Germany, Shivadas Pattanath, was recently honoured with the ‘German Meritorious Cross,’ a national award, at Langen, Germany, for his decade-long social service in Germany and India.

The award, comprising a gold medal with cross engraved on it, was conferred on him by the district president Peter Walter and Mayor Dieter Pitthan.

Mr. Pattanath, educated in Chennai, settled in Germany during early 1980s. He took to social service after his retirement from Frankfurt Airport Authority. He is a member of several voluntary organisations in Germany and has raised funds totalling Euro 40,000 for social causes.

Besides extending help to elderly members of old age homes in Germany, he has donated blood 88 times and supports the Home for Handicapped Children, Guild of Service, in Chennai.
