Husband John has paid tribute to Gisela, who he was married to for 56 years. The couple met in Germany, where Gisela was born, while he was serving in the Army. She moved to England aged 21 and began working in factories in Hertford. The pair adopted a son, Stephen, and also had a grandson called Benjamin.
John said he would miss Gisela deeply. "She was a wonderful wife, mother and cook. She was a very happy person. Gisela loved to dance, she was very good and liked the foxtrot and the Waltz."
Gisela was a member of the Essendon Women's Institute and was often helping out with planning events and functions. John said: "She was a good talker and would always manage to get raffle prizes to raise money for the WI. Gisela was very caring and looked after an elderly lady in our village, Mrs Roberts and cooked and cleaned for her. Gisela treated her like one of the family."
