U.K.: £7.3 Million Care Home Opens In Scotland, In Bid To Ease Bed Blocking

EDINBURGH (Edinburgh Evening News), January 21, 2008: A new 60-bed city council care home has been opened to elderly people in the city. The £7.3 million development has been funded by NHS Lothian and the city council to ease levels of bed blocking. The first residents are now to be admitted at the facility in Greendykes Road, in Craigmillar, which has been named Castlegreen because of its proximity to Craigmillar Castle. The new home is to be operated by Four Seasons Health Care, one of Scotland's leading independent healthcare providers. The company, set up in Fife 20 years ago operate numerous care homes and other specialist units across the UK. Councillor Paul Edie, the city's health and social care leader, said: "As a council we are committed to offering high quality residential care for older people. "We also want older people in the city to have choice in the care they receive. Castlegreen will widen this choice and I am sure the care delivered by Four Seasons will be of high quality."
