INDIA: Free Medical Camp For Arthritis Hosted in Siliguri

SILIGURI, North Bengal (The Statesman), January 6, 2008: Siliguri mayor Bikash Ghosh today inaugurated Relief-Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, a day-long free arthritis and disability camp at the Relief rheumatology and rehabilitation clinic and physiotherapy centre in Hakimpara, Siliguri. The mayor hoped that this effort would herald a new movement in the field of free medical aid for the needy, especially those who live in the remote rural areas of the region. Dr Ashesh Roychowdhury had come all the way from Agartala to provide free treatment to the patients at the camp. Relief director Dr Partha Pratim Pan cautioned people against unscientific treatments available for arthritis in this region. “Nine out of 10 cases of arthritis can be completely cured through allopathic treatment and there is no need for patients to seek the help of quacks for the treatment of the disease,” Dr. Partha said. Over 300 patients were treated as part of a three-day long programme to provide knowledge and treatment to patients affected by arthritis. Source: Asia News Network
