GHANA: Aged Feted For Contribution To Nation
ASAMANG, Ghana (Ghana Broadcasting Corporation), January 2, 2008:
About 500 senior citizens from Asamang, Konya and Brehoma communities in the Afigya Sekyere district of Ashanti have been treated to a luncheon as part of the Christmas festivities, at Asamang. It was organised by the Asamang Youth Alliance in collaboration with the Asamang SDA Hospital.
The Founder of the Asamang Youth Alliance, Charles Efa said the luncheon was in appreciation of the aged, for their contribution to national development.
He challenged the senior citizens to be role models for the youth. The Principal Nursing Officer at the Asamang SDA Hospital, Georgina Oklu, educated the senior citizens on heart diseases and advised them to refrain from eating fatty foods, and exercise regularly to maintain good health.
The Chief of Asamang, Nana Barima Sekyere, noted that today’s youth would become tomorrow’s senior citizens hence the need to give them the necessary support to enable them to grow up properly.
