BAHRAIN: Medical Centre For Elderly Opens This Month
.
MANAMA, Bahrain / Gulf Daily News / January 2, 2008:
A medical centre, donated by Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo, to be opened later this month will be a boost for Bahrain's elderly. Its official opening will be held by the middle of this month, said Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Aziz Hamza.
The Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo Community Medical Centre, built at a cost of BD690,000, is a donation by Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo to the people of Bahrain, he added. The family handed over the project to the ministry in April last year, which originally planned to outsource the centre to the private sector to run. However, it is now being decided that the ministry will run the centre, Dr Hamza told the GDN.
"The recruitment of doctors, nurses and other health workers required for the centre has been completed," he added.
The 54-bed centre has been designed by Mohammed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau.
The 2,100sqm facility is located near the Salmaniya Medical Centre. The two-storey building has separate wards for men and women on the first floor. The outpatient and administration wing with utility services is on the ground floor. The centre is also equipped to conduct house calls for the elderly and will be provided with an ambulance service facility by the Health Ministry.
