USA: Portland Car Dealer To Pay $100,000 For Age Discrimination Claim

PORTLAND, Oregon (StatesmanJournal - The Associated Press), December 5, 2007: An Oregon car dealer has agreed to settle an age discrimination lawsuit for $100,000 after a manager repeatedly harassed a 62-year-old employee. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says the general manager for Gresham Nissan/Subaru harassed Jeffrey Goetz because of his age, then demoted him for complaining about the harassment. The commission filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Goetz under the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act. The lawsuit alleges the manager kept calling Goetz old and told him to turn up his hearing aid. Under today's settlement, the dealership must also review its management policies.
