U.K.: Senior Citizens' Party Opposes Government Yet Again
LONDON, England (Politics.Co.Uk), November 6, 2007:
The Senior Citizens Party which represents over 20 million people age 50 or over, the largest demographic group in the country, has accused the Government of "yet another U-turn" in the Queen's Speech.
Party Leader, Grahame Leon-Smith said that the SCP had continually suggested that the ridiculous law preventing the police from interviewing a suspect after he has been charged - which does not exist in other European countries - should be repealed.
Once suspects are charged there then is no longer any need for any "detention without charge" laws, which have proved to be so controversial, since they would remain in prison until their trial (as they do in other countries).
"They also need to allow evidence obtained from telephone or email tapping to be admissible in court," he added, "it is quite stupid to pass a law making this interception legal but then to refuse to allow the evidence which has been collected to be presented to the court.! We welcome the Government's conversion to our policies !"
