NETHERLANDS: Rising Number of Elderly In Trouble With The Law

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands (Expatica), November 5, 2007: Metro reports on its front page on the Zembla report on the rising number of elderly getting in trouble with the law. The number of people 65 and over appearing in court for the first time has increased by about 60 percent over the past decade. The public prosecution department expects this increase to continue in the coming years. Experts say senior citizens often do not realise they have committed a crime. "It is often also a cry for attention," says professor of forensic psychiatry Karel Oei.
