USA: Elderly Woman Found in Deplorable Conditions

MIAMI (CBS4), August 6, 2007: Police have launched investigation into the disturbing living conditions of an elderly person in Miami. The person was found living in a home with no running water and no electricity for about a month. Police say the 86-year old woman has a live-in caretaker and the caretaker is the person who called Miami Fire-Rescue on Monday morning after suffering from some breathing problems. When Fire-Rescue personnel arrived, they discovered that the caretaker and the bedridden elderly woman had both been living in the home without any running water for two weeks and without electricity for about a month and a half. Fire-Rescue officials called the Miami Abuse Hotline to report the deplorable living conditions even though the elderly woman refuses to seek help. Police are talking to the elderly woman’s daughter in order to try and get to the bottom Police told CBS4’s Liv Davalos that the elderly woman is refusing help. © MMVII, CBS Broadcasting Inc.
