JAPAN: Elderly Woman Finds 10 Million Yen in Mailbox

KYOTO, Japan (The Yomiuri Shimbun), July 24, 2007: An envelope containing 10 million yen was found Monday in the mailbox of a house in Muko, Kyoto Prefecture, police said. A 67-year-old woman who lives alone in the house discovered the envelope containing 10 stacks of 100 notes of 10,000 yen early morning when she checked the mailbox for her newspaper. She reportedly said she had no idea where the money came from. The police are searching for the owner of the money. According to the investigation, the names of a bank and a post office were written on the wrappers of the bills. As the woman did not see the envelope when she checked the mailbox the previous evening, the police believe it was placed there before the newspaper was delivered. © The Yomiuri Shimbun.
