INDIA: Over 76.6 Million Indians Are Aged 60 and More

BANGALORE (Deccan Herald), May 11, 2007: India is home to over 7.66 crore people over the age of 60. According to data available with the health ministry, the country has 76,622,321 persons aged 60 and above, reports IANS from New Delhi. With nearly 14 per cent of the elderly population, Uttar Pradesh tops the chart with 1.16 crore elderly. Maharashtra follows with 84.5 lakh senior citizens. West Bengal has 57 lakh, Bihar and Tamil Nadu have 55 lakh senior citizens each. Copyright. Deccan Herald
